Guarnaschelli was born to Maria Guarnaschelli. She was the daughter of John Guarnaschelli. In the year 1991, she graduated from Barnard College with an art historical degree. She was employed in the American Place restaurant for one year at the minimum wage from the year 1991 through 1991. Guarnaschelli began her culinary journey through watching her mom prepare and edit cookbooks. Guarnaschelli interned under Larry Forgione (whose son is Iron Chef Marc Forgione), and then at a number of eateries in France, New York and Los Angeles, including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. She also worked at Daniel Boulud's own restaurant, as well as Joachim Splichal's Patina prior to becoming the executive chef at Butter. Prior to its closing, she worked as the executive chef at The Darby. She chaired the Food Museum's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli published her first cookbook in the year 2013. "Old-School Comfort Food The Way I Learned to Cook" blends personal details and the most loved recipes from her professional experience which she modified for her kitchen at home.
